Arden Shoot 1
'Breadwinner'

This page contains images and the final product for our first Arden shoot in week one. This short is called 'Breadwinner', I was an art runner and props master. I had great fun in pre-production designing the set and selecting props and in addition in production on set helping out.

Pre-Set Design

This image shows the set in the teaching studio once we had hoovered, moved props in and out and made the sofa look presentable. This is before props were added.

Props List

A week before the shoot the art department crew came together and decided on what props were essential after doing a script read through. I wrote these down whilst we discussed.

Sourcing Props

The production designer and I went to the props room with our list in mind to gather a group of props that we could then show the director.

Props Box

After searching the prop room, we created a box full of our props to leave by the set and come back to on prep day.

 My Art Department Notes

After doing my script breakdown I created another list of props and separated them into essential props and ones used for the aesthetic.

Directors Art Department Notes

I spoke with the Director and asked what they wanted from the art department and if there were any specific props or directions we needed. I wrote down what he said.

Overdue Bill Props

These props were created by one of our production designers. They were then sent to me to be printed out and cut out.

Prop Placement Techniques

We needed to place pictures and frames onto the set walls however we had to ensure the walls were not damaged in anyway. We used blue-tac and command strips to overcome this issue.

Prop Placement

The production designer and I then started to decorate the set with the props we had gathered.

Issue On Set

This image shows where the wall slat started to fall down. This was after I had climbed the ladder pictured and used the duct-tape shown to fixate the two slats back together.

Continuity Pictures

I captured this image for continuity purposes as I had to remember where the coffee table was positioned as it had to be moved to make room for the tri-pod.

Continuity Pictures

This picture was taken by me for continuity purposes to know where to place the props again once they had been moved by the actors. As I was in charge of putting the props back in place.

SD Card Runner

Whilst on set I also had the role of transporting the audio and video SD cards to the DIT/Editor. This image shows when I was delivering the SD cards and then taking them back down once footage had been uploaded.

On Set

This picture shows me on set making some tweaks to the set before we started filming.

Final Product

This is the final edited video and shows off our set being used by the actors. I am overall very happy with how our set looked on screen and given feedback from the Director, so were they.
